The Weight of Now
By Vincent Leow
5 - 17 February 2025

As the world grapples with unrest and destruction, we are faced with the gravity of emotional wreckage in sites where consciousness and memory collide. This exhibition explores the chaotic aftermath of loss; how it reshapes people, places and identities in ways apparent, and unseen. Through stories of endurance and pain, the work captures lives forever altered, memories etched in our minds like stains, and invites us to consider what it means to be human in a world where power defines the way we remember, grieve, and exist.

About the Artist(s)

From the 1980s to now, Vincent Leow has been pushing boundaries in his practice and is known for his use of different mediums such as sculpture, painting, printmaking, drawing, performance art, video, and installation. He also stands as a central figure in the history of the art collective, being one of the early members of The Artists Village in the 1980s. A decade later, he co-founded the collective Plastique Kinetic Worms (PKW) and served as its artistic director in exhibitions and programmes in Singapore and Southeast Asia. As an educator, Vincent spent decades in art education; from LASALLE College of the Arts to University of Sharjah’s College of Fine Arts and Design in the UAE to School of the Arts (SOTA). Vincent has participated extensively in group exhibitions and held many solo shows, and he represented Singapore at the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007). In 2020, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion, Singapore’s highest arts accolade which celebrates practitioners who have made extraordinary contributions to the country’s artistic development through professional maturity in their practice and a distinctive body of work. The particularity of his point of view, astute approach to satire, commentaries on culture and commodification, and a profound sense of humour permeate Vincent’s practice.
