Abhay Sardesai

Abhay Sardesai has been the the Editor of ARTIndia since 2002. Under his editorship, the magazine has developed a Culture Studies-oriented approach and has become more inter-disciplinary in its theme-based explorations. He was previously a Visiting Faculty in Aesthetics at the University of Mumbai’s Department of English, and the Chair of Humanities at Mumbai’s Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture.

About the Artist
Shilpa Gupta
Shilpa Gupta is an Indian artist born in 1976 in Bombay. She graduated from Sir J. J. School of Fine Arts with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in 1997.
Gupta works with a wide variety of mediums including manipulated found objects, video and performances. Her interest lies in perception and ways in which we transmit and understand information. She is drawn to how objects, places, people and experiences are defined and asks how these definitions are played out to prompt a reevaluation of social identity and status.
Gupta has participated in numerous exhibitions including the Kochi Muziris Biennale in India, (2018), NGV Triennale (2017), and Berlin Biennale (2014) and has held solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Arts Center in OK Centre for Contemporary Art in Linz (2010) and the Cincinnati Arnolfini in Bristol (2012).
